Influence of Black Oxide Coating on Micropitting and ZDDP Tribofilm Formation

چکیده

Micropitting is a type of surface fatigue damage that occurs in rolling–sliding contacts operating under thin oil film conditions. Application black oxide (BO) coating to steel rubbing surfaces has been suggested as potential approach alleviate micropitting. This article confirms BO coatings can prevent micropitting and identifies the predominant mechanism by which this occurs. tests were carried out using zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) solutions ball-on-disc tribometer. was preferentially generated on smooth balls completely prevented applying rougher discs, regardless whether coated or not. In contrast, when rough discs not BO-coated, consistently both BO-coated uncoated balls. about one-quarter hardness used found be very rapidly removed from asperity peaks at onset rubbing, despite presence ZDDP. resulted an almost immediate large reduction roughness high stresses would normally initiate propagate cracks, leading Parallel measurement showed did suppress tribofilm growth, so ZDDP able protect against adhesive wear while promoting The insights presented here help with design components lubricants are effective controlling sliding

Influence of roughness on ZDDP tribofilm formation in boundary lubricated fretting

Influence of initial surface topography on tribofilm formation in ZDDP lubricated contact was analysed. A small displacement fretting tests with sinusoidal motion were carried out in classical sphere/plane configuration. A range of surfaces with different initial roughness were prepared by milling and grinding processes. Tests were carried out using variable displacement method where amplitude ...

Influence of Workpiece Material on Tool Wear Performance and Tribofilm Formation in Machining Hardened Steel

In addition to the bulk properties of a workpiece material, characteristics of the tribofilms formed as a result of workpiece material mass transfer to the friction surface play a significant role in friction control. This is especially true in cutting of hardened materials, where it is very difficult to use liquid based lubricants. To better understand wear performance and the formation of ben...

On the mechanism of ZDDP antiwear film formation

Zinc dialkyldithiophosphate additives are used to control wear and inhibit oxidation in almost all engine oils as well as many other types of lubricant. They limit wear primarily by forming a thick, protective, phosphate glass-based tribofilm on rubbing surfaces. This film formation can occur at low temperatures and is relatively indifferent to the chemical nature of the substrate. There has be...

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
